Character Name: Rita Farr
Canon: Doom Patrol
Canon Point: Season 3, Episode 5 (end of episode, when she steps into the time machine)
Age: nearly 100 (physically appears in her mid 30s)
Background: link
Arrival Scenario: Solvunn
Suitability: Rita Farr is not one to stay quiet. Even with all that she secluded herself for many years, there lives a determination to not only be seen but to make an impact. It's this attitude that pushed Rita into encouraging the revival of the superhero team, the Doom Patrol, and what had her self-assign herself as its leader. She has a knack for making plans, all of which involve outlining steps in great detail (to the point of keeping well-organized binder), addressing enemies and allies, assigning duties to individuals, and keeping focus on a final goal. It's this leadership quality that often makes her a highlight within a community, regardless of their intentions. Though Solvunn doesn't seem like the likely place to find someone as loud and bombastic as Rita (she also won't be too thrilled at her destination), she's fond of joining groups of close-knitted people with a common goal that she can help rally and she'll be determined to bring motivation and entertainment to the vast settlements. Additionally, for someone who once thrived in a large city, embracing her fame, it's only when being a part of smaller, more community-minded groups that Rita was able to begin feeling a sense of purpose, thinking of smaller fulfilling goals rather than wider impossible (and very selfish) ambitions. Being a part of Solvunn would encourage her to think of what she could offer to benefit others rather than herself.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them. Rita had been quite a well-established actress from the 1940s into the early 1950s, but as all things do, she had eventually outgrown her youth and freshness in the industry, resulting in lesser calls for roles and an almost instantaneous bump off the lists of Hollywood's biggest producers. Eventually, though, after aiding those producers with less than admirable favors, she received the chance to make her return to leading roles with a big budget adventure film, set out in the Congo. However, it's on this set, that Rita experienced the tragic accident of falling into a contaminated lake where she was biologically exposed to a toxic gas that altered her cellular structure and changed her life forever.
Though this accident had granted Rita new "abilities", she could hardly see it that way with the way she lacked control over her limbs that could now have the capability to stretch. Instead, her body would simply deform into a hideous clump of skin, often resulting in a shapeless blob. Shamed by her new appearance, Rita gave up the spotlight for good and became a recluse, isolating herself in a manor with other similar "freaks" for decades. As a result of the accident, Rita developed a new outlook on herself, reflecting on the selfish acts she engaged in to seek fame and attention, along with all the people she'd hurt and tossed aside on her own pedestal. Fear and shame had taken over this woman who had once embodied confidence, finally looking beyond the beauty and instead seeing the self-proclaimed monster beneath, forcing her into years of trying to overcome her self-hatred to find a new purpose for herself.
Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by? Though Rita would have once proclaimed that she has little interest in anything outside of looking out for her own needs and self-preservation, she has recently come to accept her desperate attempt to do good in the world, wanting to abide by the codes that a "superhero" would, aiding those in need and those who can't defend themselves. Though Rita is hardly an experienced crime fighter, she does have a sense of maternal protection that aids to push herself to have better control of her abilities when trying to protect children, as adrenaline and desperation of wanting to keep them safe drives her to do what she can, even if it puts her own safety at risk. This comes from the fact that she once wasn't able to help a child in need due to her own selfish interests at the time, along with the fact that she herself did not have the most caring loving mother, who only had interest in furthering Rita's career at a youthful age.
What quality or qualities do they admire most? There's really nothing that Rita appreciates more than good natured enthusiasm. Considering that the team she spends the most time with consists of members that have a great deal of reluctance towards participation and getting involved with selfless acts, Rita likes when she finds people that feel a drive of motivation towards jumping into activities, especially if it involves creating art. The irony is that Rita, for a long time, had lacked this particular quality, secluding herself into isolation and wanting to stay out of the prospect of trouble, but when she begins to gradually overcome her own doubts and gets a jumpstart of inspiration, she begins to loudly try to push others into the same kind of epiphany, appreciating when people can understand that same compulsive energy that runs through her.
Do they have a part of themselves they dislike? Having once been a famed actress on the silver screen, Rita thrived during her career with all the bliss of being able to perform and be admired for it. When she began to lose the spotlight, she developed a desperation to maintain that lifestyle, to the point where she would accept doing questionable favors for high ranking producers, including introducing young actresses to them that would then earn rising careers of their own. Eventually, though, one of those young women became pregnant, and as the producer refused to acknowledge the child as his own, she went to Rita for help. However, Rita simply gave her a hundred dollars and sent her on her way. The next she heard of her, the woman had taken her own life. Briefly, Rita considered caring for the child out of guilt, but when she received a call being offered the lead role in the next big picture, Rita only thought selfishly of her own future.
It was only after her accident which altered her body when Rita began to acknowledge her own inner ugliness. No matter how much she styled herself, the deformed shape seemed to represent more of her own horrific selfishness than her true face ever could. She began to spite her own ambitions, the way she would stoop to aiding and defending terrible people for the sake of furthering her own career, including the acknowledgement when she was a child star, her mother would sleep with producers to secure roles for her. Everything that she prided on had been built on lies and horrible deeds and so she saw herself as the ugly monster she began to transform into physically.
However, Rita does eventually seek the chance to better herself from her selfishness, in small ways such as auditioning for the local community theater play to earn a role on her own merit, and fighting crime on the streets to help people in need without expecting anything in return. The path proves difficult as Rita frequently falls back into old habits from time to time, but the commitment to the journey remains strong, trying to become someone that she doesn't have to hate.
What is their sign, and why? The Star — On the surface, Rita's connection with this sign is quite obvious, in the way that her entire life is centered on quite literally trying to be a star. Her love of theatre and the arts exceeds her interests in most things, and for a great period of time, she craved the glory and admiration that came with fame. However, there's also a core part of the sign that Rita embodies beyond the surface stardom, in that she thrives on creativity and the enjoyment and passion that comes with expression. Even during a time that she loses her memories of her past, Rita still ultimately begins to make art with her friends in private spaces, dancing and singing and performances for the mere love of it and as a way of expresses their joys and pains. It's this same creative expression of honesty that she seeks to use in her daily life, that she often tries to encourage others to do with her, because of the way that all emotion lives in art in some form and can ultimately lead to different paths of fulfillment.

Powers:
ELASTICITY — After being exposed to an unknown gas, Rita's biology was mutated, allowing her the ability to stretch her limbs and reform the shape of her body at will, including changing her size to be as large as a building. However, Rita does not always have full control of her powers, which sometimes causes her skin to droop when faced with distressing situations, to the extent that her entire body can turn into a giant blob.
With regard to limitations, Rita rarely takes on the form of a giant, as it takes a considerable amount of energy and she tends to not enjoy standing out with her "oddities". The change in size may only appear in times of dire importance and, even then, could possibly not work due to Rita's difficulty in being able to properly have control of her abilities. The size of her "blob form" will also be limited to no larger than that of an average sized car.
